Derrick LeMont Sanders
The use of my full name
seems a little self indulgent, Huh?
Well, you wouldn't believe how many Derrick
Sanders there are in this business, hence the use of the middle name.
Note: it is "Le" not "La". My twin brother was born first, so, It is befitting
that he received the "A."
I'm from a small town in Arkansas called Marianna, about two
hours east of Little Rock.
My first experience on stage was at ten years old, singing and
dancing to "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson . I had the
red jacket with the zippers, the penny loafers and of coarse the
sequenced socks and Glove.
In high school, I did my first play. I was sitting in my English class when my teacher
presented me with a script and instructed me to learn the lines
and come to rehearsal. You see, my English teacher was also
the Drama teacher and she needed someone to play an athlete that
was using steroids. I was the starting quarterback on the
football team. So, I suppose it was type casting.
After finishing my eligible in collegiate football as a four
year letterman, I took a couple
of acting classes as electives. And found that football shares similar elements with
acting, but on a larger stage. For example, there's a playbook that you rehearse and when it's
show time you find yourself "in the moment" reacting to
whatever comes your way.
By the time I completed my degree in Business Administration, I
had figured out that acting was my calling. So, I found my way to Circle In The Square Theater School in New York City where I began
training and studying the craft of acting.
For several years, I lived in New York learning the industry,
honing my craft and working to earning membership in the three
major acting unions: Screen Actors Guild,
Actors' Equity Association and the American
Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
I am now in Los Angeles concentrating on film and television -
working to become the next.....
well ....the next..... Derrick LeMont Sanders,... and Enjoying the Ride!
